Pelvic Health dysfunction may have many different presentations and Bernadette has developed skills and expertise over the years to help clients manage and overcome their dysfunction.

She understands that people are often embarrassed to seek help, particularly if the problem has developed since childbirth, they might even think it’s normal.  These problems can lead to women developing their own coping strategies, such as cutting out ‘high risk’ activities like exercise; going to the toilet more frequently than necessary; drinking less in the misguided belief it will stop them leaking; or relying on pads as an expensive solution to the problem.  Yet sometimes all it takes is some specialist treatment and advice to get back on track.

Bernadette understands how distressing talking about some of these challenges can be and is sensitive to meeting clients needs by putting them at ease.  In this way clients can feel confident enough to talk openly about their difficulties, knowing everything they say will be addressed sensitively and will remain strictly confidential.

On a personal note, Bernadette was born and raised in Ireland. She trained and worked in the UK for 9 years where she commenced her pelvic health training and work, before moving to New Zealand 10 years ago. Bernadette and her Napier born and raised husband Jean-Pierre, have two daughters who occupy most of their time outside of the clinic. They are delighted to be settling back in the beautiful Hawke's Bay. Bernadette actively participates in pilates and yoga and remains passionate about all sports - particularly water sports.

Bernadette has held pelvic health and women's physiotherapist posts at Auckland DHB and Counties Manukau DHB. Over the last 8 years Bernadette has worked as an Advanced Clinician holding a Specialist role in pelvic floor and women's health, whilst also running a successful private practice in Central and East Auckland.

Bernadette is excited to be bringing her years of experience and skills to the Hawke's Bay.  She has established Hawke's Bay Pelvic Health & Women's Physiotherapy and has commenced practice since September 2017 based at the clinic rooms of Carlyle Medical Centre in Napier.
