Bernadette is a highly trained & experienced Pelvic Health & Women’s Physiotherapist, mother & female advocate. Bernadette is also a Certified Holistic Pelvic Care™ Practitioner - only one of two Pelvic Health Physiotherapists in New Zealand trained in the field of physical, emotional and energetic methods to support women's health at all stages of life. She has undertaken numerous post-graduate courses and trained extensively in the field of pelvic health in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. She brings a wealth of knowledge & nearly 20years physiotherapy experience to Hawkes Bay.
Bernadette has successfully treated 1000's of women through the public DHB & private sectors in the UK and New Zealand and holds many professional memberships: PWMH SIG New Zealand - Member Pelvic Women’s and Men’s Health Special Interest Group IUGA - Member of International Urogynecological Association NZCA- Member New Zealand Continence Association WHTA- Member Women’s Health Training Associates MPNZ- Member Physiotherapy New Zealand Bernadette treats ALL pelvic & abdominal conditions affecting women, by empowering & helping them through all stages of life. She offers a professional, sensitive and individually tailored approach and strives to help clients regain their physical and emotional strength,through education, exercise and therapeutic care.
On a personal note, Bernadette was born and raised in Ireland. She trained and worked in the UK for 9 years where she commenced her pelvic health training and work, before moving to New Zealand 12 years ago.
Bernadette and her Napier born and raised husband Jean-Pierre, have two daughters who occupy most of their time outside of the clinic. They are delighted to be settling back in the beautiful Hawke's Bay. Bernadette actively participates in pilates and yoga and remains passionate about all sports.
Bernadette's early career in pelvic health was complimented by working also in the field of musculoskeletal and sports medicine. For the last 11years Bernadette has focused solely on pelvic health. She has held Pelvic Health and Women's Physiotherapist positions at Auckland DHB and Counties Manukau DHB. Bernadette worked for 8years as an Advanced Clinician holding a Senior Speciality Role in pelvic floor and women's health at Counties Manukau DHB, whilst also running a successful private practice in Central and East Auckland. As part of this role Bernadette undertook several service development projects for women's health in pain management, prolapse and continence management. Receiving a Allied Health Service Recognition Award in 2012 for her role in the establishment of a perineal trauma clinic ran in conjunction with an Obstetrician that continues to run sucessfully today.
Bernadette is excited to be bringing her years of experience and skills to the Hawke's Bay. She has established Hawke's Bay Pelvic Health & Women's Physiotherapy and commenced practice in September 2017 based at the clinic rooms of Carlyle Medical Centre and Napier Health Centre in Napier.
